Friends of Tuckerman Ravine Elects Jake Risch
To Lead Environmental and Educational Initiatives

Organization Aids U.S. Forest Service in Protection and Preservation of Mount Washington and Tuckerman Ravine

March 27, 2021 - MADISON, NH - Friends of Tuckerman Ravine ( ) announces its election of new president Jake Risch and its 2012 environmental and educational initiatives to support the U.S. Forest Service in protecting and preserving Mount Washington and Tuckerman Ravine. An avid backcountry skier, trained heli-ski guide, and lifelong "Tucks" skier, Risch served as a Captain in the US Army and has extensive military and civilian logistics expertise in remote areas, including both Afghanistan and Iraq. As a charter lifetime member of Friends of Tuckerman Ravine, Risch is excited to lead the organization in helping protect the historic uses of the Ravine for future generations. Risch will lend his extensive logistics skills to the organization's environmental and educational efforts year-round, including the popular Friends of Tuckerman pentathlons held in the Mount Washington Valley each year: "Tuckerman Inferno" and "Wildcat Wildfire" (see for details). The events raise funds to help support select U.S. Forest Service initiatives during a time of budgetary constraints.

"I am excited to lead Friends of Tuckerman Ravine and raise awareness of our many events, educational programs, and environmental initiatives," said Jake Risch, president. "There are many ways people can get involved through our organization in helping to preserve and protect Tuckerman Ravine and Mount Washington -- a place of great history and beauty, enjoyed by generations of naturalists and sports enthusiasts."

Risch summarized some of the 2012 Friends of Tuckerman Ravine educational and environmental goals as:

•  Raise funds for and organize volunteer labor to complete infrastructure maintenance projects

•  Repair and replace aging bridges on Tuckerman Ravine trail

•  Help maintain trails

•  Support other infrastructures as needed (roof structures over avalanche boards, storage sheds, etc.)

•  Educational programs on the safe, sustainable uses of the Ravine

•  Educational videos for schools and other institutions interested in the environment.
