This
past summer, Nancy Deputy, daughter of Dick Elliott, sent in a check to establish
a memorial fund in memory of her father who was involved with the White Mountain
National Forest and other forests in his lifetime. Details are as follows:Richard Edwin Elliott, born July 17, 1910 in Boston Mass - died October 13, 1990. He married Emily Dennison Thompson from Bangor, ME. He went to high school in Montreal, Quebec, prep school at Hebron Academy in Maine and was a forestry major at the University of Maine, Class of 1933. When he was 18, he worked as a lumberman in Canada before he went to college. He worked in the White Mtns from 1933 to 1947. During that time he was in charge of the CCC camps and worked for the Forest Service in other capacities. While in NH, he lived in Laconia, Bethlehem, Gorham, Littleton, Plymouth, Franconia and numerous other places. In 1947 he moved to Bridgewater, VA and worked as a forest ranger for the
George Washington National Forest. In 1967 he retired from being supervisor
