Mission Statement
Friends of Tuckerman Ravine
seeks to preserve and protect the unique alpine and sub-alpine eastern
slopes of Mount Washington NH and work in partnership with the US Forest
Service to sustain the traditional uses of this distinctive area.
Accomplishments
-
We appealed to
Senator John Sununnu and received funding for new radios and a 12 Pair
telephone cable from hermit lake Shelter area to Pinkham to insure
continued reliable avalanche forecasting and rescue communication!

We then appealed to Senator Judd Greg and received funding to drill a
well for year round potable water just above hermit lake on the left
side of the summer trail to the ravine.

Next we appealed to Congressman Jeb Bradley and received funding to
install a foot bridge across the Ellis River to allow hikers the ability
to transition from off highway parking to the Tuckerman Ravine trail
without hiking on the highway.

An appeal then went out to the Friends of Nelson Gildersleeve fund to
supply funding for an upgrade to first aid supplies and equipment for
use in accident and rescue work.

We also have implemented a trail maintenance program for the Sherburne
and Gulf of the Slides Ski Trails.

Term Goals

public and private relationship for finding support

safety, prevention and education programs

short term solutions to the parking shortage in Pinkham Notch
- Create a
volunteer network to implement projects and programs

- Improve
trail system between Hermit Lake and Tuckerman Ravine
